Giving Thanks to God!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I invite you to join me in giving thanks today (and everyday) through the words of the hymn “Give Thanks to God, For Good is He” based on Psalm 136.

Give thanks to God, for good is he:
his love abides forever.
To him all praise and glory be:
his mercy lasts forever.

His wondrous works with praise record:
his love abides forever.
The only God, the sovereign Lord:
his mercy lasts forever.

His wisdom made the heavens to be:
his love abides forever.
He spread the earth upon the sea:
his mercy lasts forever.

Praise him whose sun awakes the day:
his love abides forever.
The moon and stars his might display:
his mercy lasts forever.

He helped us in our deepest woes:
his love abides forever.
He ransomed us from all our foes:
his mercy lasts forever.

Each creature’s need he will supply:
his love abides forever.
Give thanks to God, enthroned on high:
his mercy lasts forever.

Thanking God!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I invite you to join me in giving thanks today through the words of the following Thanksgiving hymn, “Now Thank We All Our God” by Martin Rinkart.

happy-thanksgiving-banner-clip-art-1

Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done, in Whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

Oh, may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,
With ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us;
And keep us in His grace, and guide us when perplexed;
And guard us through all ills in this world, till the next!

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given,
The Son, and Him Who reigns with Them in highest Heaven—
The one eternal God, Whom earth and Heav’n adore;
For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

Thanks to God

Happy Thanksgiving! We have so much to be thankful for. I think the words of the following Thanksgiving hymn, “Thanks to God” by Ludvig Storm, sum up the scope of what we all have to be thankful for.

givethanks

Thanks to God for my Redeemer,
Thanks for all Thou dost provide!
Thanks for times now but a memory,
Thanks for Jesus by my side!
Thanks for pleasant, balmy springtime,
Thanks for dark and stormy fall!
Thanks for tears by now forgotten,
Thanks for peace within my soul!

Thanks for prayers that Thou hast answered,
Thanks for what Thou dost deny!
Thanks for storms that I have weathered,
Thanks for all Thou dost supply!
Thanks for pain, and thanks for pleasure,
Thanks for comfort in despair!
Thanks for grace that none can measure,
Thanks for love beyond compare!

This year, I am especially thankful for the following:

  1. Celebrating 10 years of directing Christian Small Publishers Association (CSPA) and helping small publishers and independently published authors experience success in marketing their book in the Christian marketplace.
  2. The publication of the Third Edition of my book Your Guide to Marketing Books in the Christian Marketplace.
  3. Winning another award for Your Guide to Marketing Books in the Christian Marketplace.
  4. Six years of blogging, and for you, the readers of this blog.
  5. The gift of salvation!
  6. Another year of living, loving, and serving God!

I am Thankful for…

Every year, the fourth Thursday of the month of November is designated as a special day for thanksgiving in the United States of America. It provides us a wonderful opportunity to sit back and reflect on all our blessings and the things we have to be thankful for.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

As Christians, God wants us to have thankful attitudes every day. I strive to do just that.
However, in light of Thanksgiving, I am spending just a little time on this blog to share with you some of the things that I am thankful for.

  • I am thankful for having the privilege of leading and directing Christian Small Publishers Association (CSPA) for the past 10 years.
  • I am thankful for all the publishing members (both present and past) of CSPA and the desire they have to spread the message of the Gospel.
  • I am thankful that we live in a country where we can freely publish and distribute Christian materials.
  • I am thankful that the Third Edition of Your Guide to Marketing Books in the Christian Marketplace will release in early 2014. The guide desperately needed to be updated and God has graciously given me the bandwidth to do it this year.
  • I am thankful for you, the readers of this blog. I pray that it is a blessing to you.
  • I am thankful for my wonderful, supportive, loving family.
  • I am thankful for a heavenly Father who loves me and provides for all my needs.

Now Thank We All Our God

Recently, I had a conversation with a friend who is going through a hard time. She kept talking about people who have it better than she does. Each time she told a story about someone who is better off than she is; my friend would then ask why God is not doing this or that for her.

I told my friend I thought she was focusing on the wrong thing. I reminded her that for every person who has it better than she does, there are more that are worse off than she is. I told her I thought that for every person she thinks of who is better off than herself, she should think of two or three who have it worse than she does. Then, she should thank God that she is not that bad off. I encouraged her that each time she thought of someone worse off than herself she should say “but for the grace of God, there go I.”

We have so much to be thankful for. It’s all in our perspective and what we choose to focus on.

This Thanksgiving I am thankful for the ways that God continues to shower his blessings.  Here are a few:

  • Christian Small Publishers Association (CSPA) has over 110 member publishers, our highest membership rate since we started in 2004.
  • The Christian Small Publisher Book of the Year Award had more nominations this year than it has had since its inception in 2008.
  • Christian Small Publishers Association’s new blogger book review program, BookCrash, has over 130 bloggers signed up to review books and that program just started a few months ago.
  • Small publishers continue to rise up and publish outstanding materials to strengthen and encourage the body of Christ.

Martin Rinkart penned these words in his “Now Thank We All Our God” hymn in 1636:

Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,
Who wondrous things has done, in Whom this world rejoices;
Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.

Thank you God for your blessings and gifts of love!

Happy Thanksgiving!
